Welcome to Fennell’s Alpacas!

Our alpaca story began with Rayelle entering the wonderful world of alpacas back in 2017, when after months of research, field and shelter preparation and the all-important husbandry course, our first 3 animals arrived at our farm on an exciting August day.

The excitement soon became grief with the tragic loss of her husband just weeks later. Through the dark years to follow, the alpacas were a lifeline, a comfort and source of wellbeing. The challenges of looking after them on her own were offset but by the joy of their gentle presence. As life slowly settled down and started to make sense again, the herd quietly continued to grow.

Within this same time span, Elliot tragically went through a similar loss in his life. When we eventually met and then married our new life lay before us with a renewed happiness that neither of us had thought possible. Now in our retirement, with Elliot’s passion (and amazing ability), he has become a much-needed partner in the business, allowing us to build a new dream together. What a whirlwind and a pleasure it continues to be.

Today with over 20 animals, our growing business is designed to fit our ambitions, interests and lifestyle. We have a mixed colour herd as we love the variations of fleece colours. We use the fleece for a variety of crafting-projects, weaving and yarn.

They say there are many ways to make a living from alpacas and while that is absolutely true, for us it’s not the whole story.  The passion for our business lies in the love we have for our animals and also in our focus on educational opportunities for young people, particularly those whose needs are special. We are involved in work experience projects, custom SEND programs, 1:1 support sessions and lots of local events.

Whether you would like 1:1 support, birthday parties, weddings, local fetes or a trip to our farm, these gentle and timid creatures seem to have a place just about anywhere.
